Merry Christmas from the Showground: A Review of 2022 21 Dec

Another year has flown by, packed full of exciting developments and brand-new events!

Here at the Showground, our diverse calendar of events continues to grow year on year – and 2022 has been no exception! With a growing team that doesn’t stand still, we’re always looking ahead and thinking of new ways to grow our events business. In addition to the four events that we organise ourselves annually – the Lincolnshire Farming Conference, Countryside Lincs, the Lincolnshire Show, and the Lincolnshire Food & Gift Fair – our team also hosted a shared Christmas party night which was a huge sell-out success, with a delicious 3 course festive menu and music from the Stolen Fridays delighting partygoers!

We were pleased to work with LPH Concerts and Events to host 3 successive concerts in July. We welcomed Simply Red, Paul Weller, and Rag ‘n’ Bone man to the showground, with audience numbers of over 20,000 across the weekend.

Another huge event this year was the return of Poacher’s International Scout and Guide Jamboree, welcoming over 6,000 scouts and guides from all over the world for a week of activities.

The biggest event for us in 2022 was most certainly the return of the Lincolnshire Show. With visitor numbers of around 55,000 over the two days, the 137th Lincolnshire Show was certainly back to its best following a 2-year break! We showcased over 470 local and national business, with fantastic feedback from everyone involved.

Aside from outdoor events, we have a number of indoor spaces, including our eco-friendly, award-winning Epic Centre, perfect for dinners, conferences, and award ceremonies of all sizes. This year, we’ve had the pleasure of hosting GLLEP Conference, the LincolnshireLive Business Awards, the Lincolnshire Business Expo and the Rural Charities Dinner – all of which celebrate the people and businesses of Lincoln.

Looking forward to 2023, we’re excited to bring even more brand-new events to the Showground – including Modified Nationals, and ComiCon – Worlds Collide, as well as expanding to two Christmas party nights.

Everything we achieve helps to support our charitable objectives as the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society and wow – what a year the (now a terrific trio) Education Team have had! Inviting schools back to the Showground has been a highlight for us, as children take part in our packed educational timetable of events – getting hands-on learning about the farm-to-fork process and the variety of careers the agricultural, environmental and horticultural sector offers.

This year, we are proud to have held a virtual Breakfast Week, where students benefitted from experiencing exciting recipes and learning about the importance of a healthy start to the day; Tractors into Schools; our amazing Countryside Lincs event; our prestigious Schools’ Challenge Competition – seeing over 40 schools across the county engage in a selected hands-on project around the ethos of the Society, to our Lincolnshire Day spectacular - introducing children to all things Lincolnshire and to offering our IMPACT group (younger adults within the industry wishing to learn more about the sector) the opportunity to visit the Dyson Farming Greenhouse at Carrington!

All that’s left for us to say is a huge thank you for being a part of another incredible year for us here at the Showground (home of the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society). From all of the team, we’d like to wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! We hope that you’ll join us again in 2023 for what is already shaping up to be another exciting year ahead.
