Meet the team: Sales 25 Oct

Due to the diversity of our venue, our sales team have worked hard to help organisers put together a huge number of different types of event over the years - everything from professional conferences to motorbike rallies and 800 cover dinners to concerts for 17,000 people.

We can help you with licenses, traffic management, health and safety, contractors right through to catering, room plans and décor. We have the experience to advise you on what has worked before, or the best practice we'd recommend (but of course every so often an organiser throws us a curveball and we learn on the job!)

Amelia, Lauren and Will are on hand to offer you support and advice that is second to none. Here's a little bit more about our team!

Amelia Chambers, Sales Manager

How long have you worked at the Showground?

I have worked at the Showground for six years in both the Sales and Marketing departments.

What did you do before coming to the Showground?

I worked at the Theatre Royal, Lincoln as a Marketing Assistant from completing my degree. I then moved to the Showground as an Events Assistant.

What is the best part of your job?

As the new Sales Manager it is difficult to know what the best bit of my job is yet to be! That said, being involved in any aspect of the Showground is always a pleasure. There is always a new enquiry to consider, an event in the planning and new people to meet. However, I think my favourite thing so far has been working with a great team and seeing the business from a new perspective.

What has been a highlight of your career at the Showground so far?

The highlight of my career at the Showground (so far) was rebranding the business. Seeing the Elton John tour here has to be up there too! The Showground has so much potential and it is great to see it realised with an international artist performing here.

What has been your favourite event so far?

Summer's End in September as it is the largest event I have seen in my new role and it showcased how flexible we are as a venue. It is the first time I have seen the Main Ring and grassed area transformed into an arena space - and it was impressive!

What is your specialist skill?

I think my specialist skill is probably my ability to build firm relationships with people and my attention to detail. I also like to think I'm team spirited and a motivator too.

What are you looking forward to at the Showground in the next year?

I am really looking forward to another year of fantastic events, including my all-time favourite the Lincolnshire Food & Gift Fair and a bit of retail therapy at the Boden clothing sale. The shared Christmas party should be amazing, with all three Epic halls filled with 900 party goers for the first time.

What has been your most embarrassing moment while working at the Showground?

Embarrassing moments? Probably too many to mention over six years!

Lauren Richardson, Senior Sales Executive

How long have you worked at the Showground?

Two years

What did you do before coming to the Showground?

I completed my university degree (BA Hons Drama) at the University of Lincoln.

What is the best part of your job?

The best part of my job is the flexibility of being able to host a wide variety of events, from small meetings to full-site events covering the whole of the showground.

What has been a highlight of your career at the Showground so far?

The Harley Davidson Rally was a highlight for me. It was a big thing, not just for the Showground but for Lincoln too, and it ended up being a great event enjoyed by many across the whole city, creating a real buzz. People still talk about the event now and how much we would love to bring it back one day.

What has been your favourite event so far?

The Boden clothing sale is my favourite event - I love shopping and getting a bargain!

What is your specialist skill?

I manage to out-talk everybody else in the office. Everyone struggles to speak on the phone when I'm on the line!

What are you looking forward to at the Showground in the next year?

I'm really looking forward to creating and developing a market for Asian weddings here at the Showground. Working with the marketing team we'll be creating a brand and going out to fairs and exhibitions to promote the venue - it's definitely something we can accommodate and I'm excited to be a part of it.

What has been your most embarrassing moment while working at the Showground?

My most embarrassing moment has to be saying goodbye to a client on the phone with, "love you" before hanging up! After realising what I had said I had to call back and apologise. The client has already told their entire office so all I could hear was laughter!

Will Taylor, Sales Executive

How long have you worked at the Showground?

I started as a temporary member of staff in April 2016 as an extra pair of hands for the Lincolnshire Show team. I then had the opportunity to join the Sales Team after the Lincolnshire Show in June, and have been here for four months now.

What did you do before coming to the Showground?

I studied Criminology at Middlesex University before going to Australia to play cricket for a year. Since then I have worked in hospitality and agriculture while travelling.

What is the best part of your job?

Meeting new people and not knowing what my day will bring. Every day is different.

What has been a highlight of your career at the Showground so far?

I built up a very good relationship with the Showground's LASTEC lawnmower before setting her on fire - oops! The highlight is probably the whole team. Everyone has been so welcoming and it's a really good place to work.

What has been your favourite event so far?

My favourite event has to be the Elton John concert in June 2016. To see first-hand an event of that size be such a success from start to finish was pretty awesome. Hopefully it has set the benchmark for similar events at the Showground in the future.

What is your specialist skill?

That's a good question. I have good people skills and I like to think practically, which I think helps the organisation of events run smoothly.

What are you looking forward to at the Showground in the next year?

I'm looking forward to the Lincolnshire Food & Gift Fair in November as I've never been before.

What has been your most embarrassing moment while working at the Showground?

A client once told me to have a good holiday, despite their being no mention of a holiday. I waited five days until I replied to save myself having to explain I wasn't going on holiday... Spain was great!
