Education at the showground

Education at the Showground

We are a charity that is passionate about agricultural education and learning.

Here at The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, we’re dedicated to educating our future generations about food, farming and the countryside while continuing to support and encourage the agricultural community around us.

The Society’s education team plan a year-round calendar of events to inspire and engage children of all ages with food and farming in Lincolnshire.

One of the education team’s main focuses is to invite Schools to take their learning out of the classroom to develop their knowledge and understanding about where their food comes from and how it’s produced.

Schools' Challenge at the Lincolnshire Show

Organised by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society, the Lincolnshire Show Schools' Challenge is open to nursery, primary, secondary and special schools in Greater Lincolnshire. We also welcome clubs, groups and external associations.

There are ten challenges to choose from and their focus is on inspiring young people to gain a better understanding of Lincolnshire's rich agricultural history, its horticulture and land-based activities. To be involved in the Schools' Challenge, choose from one of our exciting challenges to join us at the Lincolnshire Show.

If you'd like to get involved in the 2023 Schools' Challenge please contact our Education team on sstone@lincolnshireshowground.co.uk.

Farming In the Classroom

We’re pleased to be able to offer local Schools funding to contribute towards transport costs and giving school groups the opportunity to visit farms and other sites related to agriculture. The funding is also available to help Lincolnshire schools develop their own gardens and allotments.

To be considered for a grant, Lincolnshire schools will be asked to submit a simple outline of the proposed visit, including the purpose, age range of pupils and numbers involved and detail how the curriculum will be enriched by the visit. A member of the team will then send you the application form if appropriate.

Would you like a Talk to bring farming alive for your class?

Our Education and Development Officer is happy to give talks and generally enthuse young people about food and farming. We can tailor a talk to fit in with your curriculum and projects, so get in touch and let's see how we can work together.

Impact Group

The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society Impact Group was launched in March 2015 at the inaugural Lincolnshire Farming Conference. The Impact Group is a members group for young professionals, bringing together like-minded farmers and industry supporters.

Established by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society with its main aim is to advance, promote and improve agriculture and horticultural industries for future generations. Members share a passion for Lincolnshire, its farming, countryside, food production and business.

The LAS Impact Group meets several times a year, getting together to visit places of interest, events and professional development opportunities. Members can also enjoy a mix of networking and social occasions during drinks reception at the Lincolnshire Farming Conference and Lincolnshire Show.

While the Impact Group membership and visits are usually free of charge, we highly recommend joining the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society at a reduced rate. To support the Society and receive a host of benefits across the year along with priority booking on Impact Group events.

The group is ran by the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society and if you'd like to hear more about upcoming events in the calendar please contact our education team.

    EDUCATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS

As well as arranging our own education initiatives and events, we also work with local educational establishments to support their programmes each year too!

We’re building a great relationship with the University of Lincoln by supporting the students with their studies from first year through to final year students. Projects include working alongside our Showground Marketing team to analyse the website for functionality and appeal, a field trip and a consultancy project to bridge the gap between the classroom and industry to help prepare students for future employability.

We work alongside LGTA (Lincoln Group Training Association) in conjunction with CITB and Lincolnshire & Rutland EBP to hold a career taster event for Lincolnshire school children. For three days each year, the Showground is converted into a workshop for more than 20 different activities, giving students an insight into the construction industry from the best in the business.
