LINCOLNSHIRE DAY 2024 CASE STUDY 11 Jul
In October 2023 The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society (LAS) organised their 6th annual celebration of Lincolnshire Day and it proved to be as popular as ever with 14 Lincolnshire schools and 749 students visiting us, taking part in the great interactive activities over the two days. Schools attended for one day in groups of 15, completing an array of activities, with each workshop lasting 30 minutes. It was a fun fast paced day where children took part in workshops such as first aid, archery, football, leather stamping and meeting and learning about the animals at a local farm. Lincolnshire Day is a celebration of all things Lincolnshire, and it really was a fun educational day that linked to many areas of the school curriculum.
WHY DO WE CELEBRATE LINCOLNSHIRE DAY?
Lincolnshire Day began in 2006 and is usually celebrated on 1st October and even has its own flag, marking the anniversary of the Lincolnshire uprising. The uprising was a religious rebellion that began in 1536 when Henry VIII ordered the dissolution of the monasteries. Lincolnshire Day became a day to not only teach the locals and visitors about the history of the county but to honour those that lost their lives.
As well as the history element to the day it has also become a day to celebrate the great county of Lincolnshire and all that it represents. From farming to the countryside, tourism, food and culture. Last year we welcomed Lincolnshire renowned exhibitors , who came to support the day by delivering unique learning experiences to support the students learning. The exhibitors delivered some amazing interactive workshops for the Key Stage 2 students, and many come back year after year because they love the buzz and atmosphere our Lincolnshire Day celebrations produce.
We had great feedback from the schools and the exhibitors….
WHAT THE SCHOOLS SAID…
Thank you again for organising the event - our children had a great time! Please do invite us again next year! The children were absolutely thrilled to be on TV - very exciting for them!

Firstly, we would like to say a big thank you for arranging and letting us join you on Friday. The children and staff thoroughly enjoyed themselves. We would like to get in touch with the businesses that held workshops as a few said they would be available to come in to school so our other year groups might experience their expertise.

WHAT THE EXHIBITORS SAID…
I just wanted to say thank you very much for inviting me to be part of the Lincolnshire Day event. It was a fantastic event and yourself and the team made it run very smoothly (which isn’t normally easy with all of those students). It really was a lovely two days so thank you.
Orsted
Thank you for organising such a fantastic event! Sarah and I really enjoyed delivering the food education sessions; there was a lot of shocked faces from the children (and adults!) about the volume of sugar in drinks! The amazing photographs that were captured really do highlight how much the children enjoyed their time finding out about all things Lincolnshire.

WHAT NEXT?
This year Lincolnshire Day at the Lincolnshire Showground is back and we will be hosting the event on Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th October 2024 and we would love for you to join us!
We have already had schools asking to join us and some great exhibitors that have some fabulous interactive and educational workshops for the students to take part in.
WHAT DO THE STUDENTS GAIN FROM THE EXPERIENCE?
The Key Stage 2 students gain from unique and enriching learning opportunities that support curriculum delivery allowing them to broaden and embed knowledge and understanding of Lincolnshire.
• Activities around food, cooking and healthy eating which has elements from the PSHE and DT curriculum
• Finding out about the county they live in and the connections to aviation and heritage skills in Geography and topic work.
• In English the visit will give students the opportunity to write narratives about personal experiences and write about real events.
• There are many opportunities in the science curriculum, such as living things and their habitats.
• Opportunities for students to experience more hands-on creative pursuits and experience different sports.
If you would like your students to have the opportunity to come to Lincolnshire Day and experience a selection of workshops or would like to learn more about this amazing opportunity please contact:
