An inspiring day for students looking to start a career in the agricultural industry! 13 Feb

The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society’s (LAS) Ag-Career’s Event held on 6th February 2024 was a huge success! With over 600 students coming to speak and learn from our 33 exhibitors, it was great to see both exhibitors and students bringing their A- game because our Epic Centre and EXO Building were buzzing with opportunity and ambition!

From meeting inspiring professionals, informative speakers, and a variety of workshops it was a day packed with discovery and learning! Whether you were interested in becoming the next tech wizard in agri-robotics and innovations or thinking about further education with College or University or simply learning more about the possible career opportunities in the world of agriculture.

Recent research, conducted by LEAF Education, claims that the agri-food industry is best placed to engage, motivate and inspire young people about the sector and how to get involved in it and shows how important an event like Ag-Careers is.

The event is aimed at year 9 students and above into higher and further education to provide advice and guidance on their next step along the road to a career. The event focuses on offering young people an insight into the range of careers, apprenticeships, and trainee programme opportunities available within the agricultural industries in the hope of inspiring the next generation.

It is the Society’s aim that all young people will have a fantastic opportunity to gather comprehensive information and gain a real insight into the wide range of careers available within the high-tech, innovative, diverse, and highly rewarding agricultural industry in Lincolnshire and being able to provide events such as this, really helps!

Rosie Crust, Head of Charity at the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society commented:

“Lincolnshire has a wealth of leading businesses in the area, our event is the perfect opportunity to have young students and industry specialists in the same room to have informed conversations about career prospects and how they can begin to shape their future.”

We would like to thank all the schools and students who came armed with questions and left full of insights and inspiration. Your energy was the heartbeat of this event! And of course, to our amazing exhibitors, thank you for sharing your wisdom and sparking dreams. Your guidance is the compass that will help navigate these bright futures. As a charity we rely heavily on the support of local businesses and education facilities supporting our projects.

Another massive thank you to our headline sponsor of the event Branston Ltd. Who not only exhibit at the event to provide invaluable advice about a career in the industry but who sponsor the environmentally sustainable canvas bags that each visitor received.

Jackie Baker, Communications Manager at Branston Ltd, commented:

“Getting an insight into the wide range of career options available can be quite a challenge for today’s young people. The Ag-Careers event is an ideal opportunity for secondary school and college learners to see what’s out there. Branston is a keen supporter of the event, sponsoring and attending, as it gives us the chance to interact with these students and help to open their minds to some of the places and jobs they might not otherwise have considered for their future.”
