Trafford Farm Farming Operations

John Hollis had a good drilling season for 2021, with a good area of Oil Seed Rape and Winter wheat, John will bring us up to speed with some interesting and innovative crops that he has planted for this year’s harvest, so stay tuned for potentially exciting production news at a forthcoming Council Meeting. During the winter and early spring he has continued with ditch clearing and has also found some useful old drains.

The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society Trafford Fund (LAST)

Awards for successful applicants to Worshipful Company of Farmer's courses and for attendance at the Oxford Farming Conference will be welcome from any Lincolnshire based young people, see below.

The first recipient of a farming award was John Brogan, who farms at Bassingham, he is 34 years of age, born in Carlton le Moorland and has started a beef rearing business from scratch, now producing around 12 bulls a month for slaughter. He was in need of a shed to keep his hay in good order, so applied to the LAST Fund and the Henry Plumb Foundation. We both decided to make an award to John towards the cost of the project. John has erected the building himself, with help from his Dad. We hope to have a visit from Lord Plumb in the near future, for him to view the result of the two grants.

To see the options and awards available from the LAST Fund for 2021 please click here or contact chris.rothery@live.co.uk for further information.

The Society continues to owe a very great debt of gratitude to the late Miss Shelia Trafford. Her bequest to our Society is making a big difference to many lives and is providing vital support to enable us to continue our important Education and Development work at this challenging time.
