Inspiring the Next Generation at Ag Careers Event 05 Feb

The Lincolnshire Showground played host to an inspiring and action-packed Ag Careers event yesterday, welcoming 744 students ranging from Year 9 to Masters level University students. With 35 exhibitors showcasing the vast opportunities within the agricultural sector, the event provided a unique platform for young people to explore careers in food, farming, and beyond.

Highlighting the importance of career development and innovation in agriculture, students were captivated by a series of keynote speakers who shared their personal journeys into the industry. Inspiring talks from Mee Blueberries, McCain, and Harper Adams University shed light on the diverse paths available and the exciting opportunities awaiting the next generation.

Engaging workshops provided hands-on experiences, including a session on brand identity and packaging led by Dyson Farming and an immersive ‘Day in the Life of a Farm Vet’ workshop. These sessions aimed to bridge the gap between education and industry, equipping students with insights into the real-world applications of their studies.

  • The University of Lincoln’s roaming robotic dog sparked curiosity and engaged students in the future of agricultural technology.
  • The National Centre for Food Manufacturing (NCFM) encouraged brave attendees to try edible insects, sparking conversations about sustainable food sources.
  • Riseholme College offered a hands-on tractor simulator experience, allowing students to immerse themselves in the realities of modern farming.
  • BASC’s Virtual Reality clay pigeon shooting gave students a taste of field sports and conservation efforts.
  • The National Grid wowed attendees with a daring demonstration of working at height, with a linesperson scaling an electrical pole to showcase their day-to-day tasks.
  • Woldmarsh provided an interactive networking challenge, emphasising the importance of linking businesses and building relationships within the agricultural sector.
