Arthur Swallow Fairs at the Showground 31 Mar
On Wednesday 1 April the Showground would have been hosting the first Arthur Swallow Fairs’ Home and Antiques Show of the year. First established in 1995, the Arthur Swallow Fairs were one of the first large outdoor events to come to the Showground many years ago.
The Home and Antiques Show draws a great overseas crowd, buyers come from Europe, Japan, Australia and America as well as dealers who bring European stock from Holland, France, Belgium, Hungary and Denmark – it’s a crucial point for international trade.
The variety of stock is incredible, from precious collectables (silver, jewellery, china, art etc) to industrial furniture, salvage, ready to use decorative antiques, vintage and retro. It's also a fantastic place to find pieces to up-cycle and repurpose. Buying what are essentially 'second-hand' goods is also a green way to buy - antiques are made to last and stand the test of time over most new, mass-produced furnishings and homeware.
Buying at these fairs you are also crucially supporting small businesses. You can buy items to add to a serious collection, items to repurpose, or beautiful and unusual things to place straight in the home. The shows are popular with independent shops, interior designers and props stylists (films, tv shows, magazines etc) - they love hunting for the unusual here. The Home and Antiques Show is also often featured on TV show Bargain Hunt!
