Winners of the Lincolnshire Agricultural Society Schools' Competitions 02 Jul

The Lincolnshire Agricultural Society Schools’ Competitions saw an incredible 21% increase in school participation this year. The four competitions, which included The Great Lincolnshire Tate Off, the Reuse and Grow competition, the Reuse and Show competition and the Photography competition saw 52 schools and 1,032 students get involved over the past three months.

Due to the cancellation of the Lincolnshire Show this year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Schools’ Competitions replaced the annual Schools’ Challenge that usually runs alongside the Lincolnshire Show. Despite the change in format, the competitions received a high level of interest from schools spanning all four corners of the county, including schools from Grimsby to Stamford and Gainsborough to Spilsby.

The competitions received excellent support from our sponsors Branston, Dyson Farming, FCC Environment and the Waterside Shopping Centre.

Dean Cross, Centre Manager at the Waterside Shopping Centre said:

We are in our third year of supporting ‘The Schools Challenge’. Obviously, 2021 has been a little different and the fact that The Lincolnshire Show has not been able to take place, has made it even more important to play a part in supporting education and our young community to promote their hard work and efforts. This year there have been some amazing creative works with lots of imagination and a fantastic opportunity to see all of this ‘first hand’ due to having the honour of judging for the first time.”

Judges of the Schools’ Competitions included chef Darren Rogan, The Lincolnshire Chef Steven Bennett, Charlotte Hay, Dan Wallis from the Cross Keys and Sam Owen from Salted Orange. We were also joined by judges Chris Vaughan Photography, Dean Cross from the Waterside Shopping Centre, Ian Willoughby from Dyson Farming, Mel Langton, Elena Malloy from Riseholme College and Sally Hood from FCC Environment.

Rosie Crust, Education Development Manager said:

“We used the opportunity of the global pandemic forced upon us to adapt our education provision virtually. With the cancellation of the 2021 Lincolnshire Show, the Schools’ Challenge competition couldn’t take its usual format, however, we were determined to continue our strong connection with schools. Recognising the value of the all-important learning focussed on food, farming, the environment and sustainability, we decided to offer four smaller scale competitions for the schools to get involved with.

With the success of the competitions this year and our extended reach, we are looking to incorporate a virtual element to the Lincolnshire Show’s Schools’ Challenge competition 2022. “
